The honest answer: PureTalk sells no-contract plans on AT&T's network, starting at $24.99 a month for 7GB with unlimited talk and text.

There is no senior plan. Veterans and first responders get 20% off. The real draw is a US-based phone line open until 10 PM Eastern on weekdays. The catch is price, since cheaper plans give more data.

What PureTalk is, in plain language

PureTalk is a prepaid reseller that rents space on AT&T's towers and sells the service under its own name. Bills are monthly. There is no contract, and you can keep your number and your phone.

The company behind it is PureTalk Holdings, based in Covington, Georgia, and its BBB file shows it in business since 2004. Its marketing leans hard on veterans, and its one plan discount is for people who served or who work as first responders.

Support is by phone. Dial 611 from a PureTalk phone, or call (877) 820-7873. PureTalk says its support team is 100% in the United States.

PureTalk plans and prices (September 2026)

Read from PureTalk's plan page and its FCC broadband labels on 22 September 2026. Every plan has unlimited talk and text. The two highlighted rows are the ones most older adults should compare. Check current prices at puretalk.com.

Taxes and fees are extra. After the high-speed allowance runs out, speeds are reduced until the plan renews, and there is no overage charge. PureTalk says it does not slow customers down when the network is busy.

The real monthly bill

$24.99 becomes about $27.11 before taxes

Each plan has an FCC broadband label, and the labels list two monthly fees. On the $24.99 plan they are a $0.50 federal Universal Service Fund fee and a $1.62 administrative cost recovery fee.

That makes $27.11 a month before state and local taxes, which vary by address. On the $34.99 plan the two fees are $0.70 and $1.87, so $37.56 before taxes.

The labels list no one-time fee at purchase. The eSIM is free, and a physical SIM card is $3.

Does PureTalk have a senior plan?

No. There is no plan with an age requirement and no senior price. PureTalk's web address for senior plans now sends you to the homepage and the same plans everyone sees.

PureTalk still writes about seniors on its blog. Its advice there is to start with a small data plan and move up only if you need more. For PureTalk, the smallest plan is the 7GB one at $24.99.

For a senior who is mostly on Wi-Fi at home, 7GB is plenty. The question is whether $24.99 is the right price for it. The comparison further down answers that.

An actual 55+ price only exists at the big carriers. Our guide to T-Mobile's 55+ plans covers the main one. AT&T itself has no age-based plan, as our AT&T senior discount answer explains.

The veteran and military discount

PureTalk takes 20% off the plan for veterans, active-duty military and first responders. It is the only discount on its plan pages, and the one worth claiming if the senior served.

The order matters. You sign up and activate first, paying the full price. Then you email proof. The discount starts on the second month's bill, once PureTalk has checked it.

Veterans send one of these

  • A DD214
  • A VA ID card
  • A driver's license that shows veteran status

Email: military@puretalk.com

Others send

  • Active duty: full name and date of birth, to military@puretalk.com
  • First responders: a professional ID card and an organization phone number, to firstresponder@puretalk.com

On the $24.99 plan, 20% off comes to about $20 a month. The fees and taxes above still apply.

military_techSee PureTalk Plans

Which network does PureTalk use?

AT&T. The plan pages only call it the nation's most dependable 5G network. The fine print under PureTalk's coverage map names AT&T twice.

PureTalk also says it does not slow its customers when the network is busy. We cannot test that claim. It is worth weighing against Trustpilot, where the most common complaint is weak or dropped signal, sometimes at home.

What to do about it: put the home address into the coverage map on PureTalk's site. Then ask a neighbour on AT&T how their signal is indoors. If it is poor, PureTalk is likely to be poor too, since the towers are the same.

Who PureTalk suits, and who should skip it

check_circlePureTalk suits a senior who...

  • •Served in the military and can claim 20% off
  • •Gets good AT&T signal at home
  • •Wants to phone a US-based person, including evenings
  • •Wants to buy a phone and a plan in one place
  • •Uses more than 1GB but rarely more than 7GB
  • •Wants the option of a paid medical alert from the same company

cancelPick something else when the senior...

  • •Mostly calls and texts, and wants the lowest bill
  • •Has weak AT&T signal at home
  • •Is an AARP member who wants that discount
  • •Wants to walk into a store for help
  • •Talks for hours and needs a full 30-day trial
  • •Is not a veteran and wants 10GB or more cheaply

If the lowest price matters most, our cheapest phone plans for seniors ladder starts at $5 a month. For an AARP discount with phone support, read our Consumer Cellular guide.

What you give up with PureTalk

None of these rules PureTalk out. Each is worth knowing before the first payment.

payments

It costs more than the budget rivals

The cheapest PureTalk plan is $24.99 for 7GB. Tello sells 10GB for $15 and 20GB for $20 a month.

elderly

No senior price

PureTalk has no age-based plan or discount. A 70-year-old pays the same as a 30-year-old.

receipt_long

Fees on top of the sticker

The labels add a $0.50 federal fund fee and a $1.62 cost recovery fee on the 7GB plan. State and local taxes come after that.

timer

The refund window can close early

The money-back rule ends at the next bill date, or after 500 minutes or 500MB of use. A chatty caller can use 500 minutes well inside a month.

A "free" phone is a 36-month deal

The phone discount needs a new line, a ported number, AutoPay, and an eligible plan kept for 36 months.

wifi_calling_3

Wi-Fi calling is not promised on every Android

PureTalk supports Wi-Fi calling on Apple phones. It says newer Androids generally work but it cannot guarantee all models.

How the money-back rule works. Call (877) 820-7873, cancel, and ask for the refund in so many words. You qualify until the next bill date, or until you use 500 minutes or 500MB of data, whichever comes first.

The refund covers the plan, the SIM card and taxes. It does not cover a phone. There is no early termination fee, and after the window you can still cancel and simply not be billed again.

Phones and SIM cards

PureTalk sells phones as well as plans. In September 2026 the list ran from a TCL Flip 2 at $89.99 to the newest iPhones. In between were a BLU G65L at $129.99 and a Samsung Galaxy A17 5G at $199.99.

The TCL Flip 2 is the one senior shoppers ask about. PureTalk's product page lists it with an M4/T4 hearing aid rating, a 2.8 inch inside screen and Android 11. Our hearing aid compatible phones guide explains what M4/T4 means.

Many phones show as free with a qualifying plan. Read the terms first. The discount needs a new line, your number moved to PureTalk, AutoPay, and an eligible plan kept for 36 months.

lock_open

Bring your own phone

It must be unlocked. The compatibility checker on the plan page cannot tell you that, so check Settings or ask the old carrier.

No lock on PureTalk phones

Phones bought from PureTalk are sold unlocked, and PureTalk does not lock them after activation.

Keeping the old number is a port. Start it with PureTalk and leave the old line open until the number moves. Have the old account number and PIN ready.

PureTalk customer service hours

This is where PureTalk earns its price. Dial 611 from a PureTalk phone, or (877) 820-7873 from any phone. The hours below were read from PureTalk's contact page in September 2026.

Monday to Friday8:00 AM to 10:00 PM Eastern
Saturday and Sunday10:00 AM to 7:00 PM Eastern

A problem at midnight waits for the morning. PureTalk's own advice for a signal problem is to call from another phone, so keep a second number handy.

PureTalk Ranger: a separate paid medical alert

PureTalk also sells a medical alert service called PureTalk Ranger. It uses a small wearable button, the Belle X, which costs $89. The Ranger plan is $25 a month, and it is not part of any phone plan.

PureTalk says monitoring center operators answer the button around the clock. Fall detection and a caregiver app are included in that $25. The app shows where the wearer is, sends SOS and fall alerts, reports battery level, and can ring the button to find it.

None of this comes with a PureTalk phone plan, so budget for a second device and a second monthly charge. We have not reviewed the Belle X.

A medical alert is one answer. An SOS feature on the phone itself is another. Our emergency features guide sorts out what each one does and what it costs.

PureTalk vs Tello

Tello is cheaper at every data level. Its $15 plan gives 10GB and its $20 plan gives 20GB, while PureTalk's smallest plan is $24.99 for 7GB. A talk-and-text user can pay $10 at Tello for 2GB.

The two run on different towers. Tello uses T-Mobile, and PureTalk uses AT&T. If T-Mobile is weak at home, that settles it. Otherwise PureTalk's case is phone support with long hours and the veteran discount. Full detail in our Tello for seniors review.

PureTalk vs Infimobile

Infimobile charges $15 a month for 5GB and $21 for 10GB. It also sells a year of 5GB or 10GB for $75. On price alone, Infimobile wins.

PureTalk wins on disclosure. Its coverage page names AT&T, while Infimobile does not name its network anywhere. For a senior who wants to know whose towers they are paying for, that matters. See our Infimobile review for seniors.

PureTalk vs Consumer Cellular

This is the closest match. Both run US-based phone support, and both use AT&T towers. Consumer Cellular also uses T-Mobile's.

Consumer Cellular starts lower, at $20 a month for 1GB with unlimited talk and text, and AARP members get 5% off. PureTalk costs $4.99 more and gives 7GB. So pick Consumer Cellular for a light user with an AARP card. Pick PureTalk for a veteran, or for anyone who uses a few gigabytes a month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is PureTalk good for seniors?

For the right senior, yes. PureTalk runs on AT&T's network, answers the phone in the United States, and keeps long weekday hours. That suits an older adult who wants to call a person and knows AT&T works at home.

It is a weaker fit on price. Tello, Infimobile and Consumer Cellular all start lower on our cheapest-plans ladder. A light user on Wi-Fi at home pays for data they will not use on the $24.99 plan.

Does PureTalk have a senior plan or a senior discount?

No. PureTalk sells one plan lineup to everyone, starting at $24.99 a month. Its web address for senior plans now sends you to the homepage and the same plans. Its own blog post on plans for seniors names no senior price.

The only discount on the plan pages is 20% for the military and first responders, and veterans count. If the senior served, that is the one to claim.

Is PureTalk legit?

Yes. The Better Business Bureau lists PureTalk in Covington, Georgia, gives it an A+ rating, and shows it accredited since June 2011. On Trustpilot it has a TrustScore of 4.3 out of 5 across 1,889 reviews. Both were checked in September 2026.

A BBB grade measures how a company handles complaints. It says nothing about signal strength. Trustpilot also notes that PureTalk has not invited customers to review it recently, and warns that the reviews may not be representative.

What are common PureTalk complaints?

On Trustpilot, the complaints that recur are about signal. Reviewers describe dropped calls, weak data, and service that fades even at home. Trustpilot also marks PureTalk as not replying to its negative reviews.

The praise is just as consistent. Reviewers name the monthly savings after leaving a big carrier, and polite, knowledgeable phone staff. Read a page of recent reviews from your own area before you switch.

Who owns PureTalk?

PureTalk's terms of service name the company as PureTalk Holdings, doing business as PureTalk. Its BBB profile gives Covington, Georgia as the base and April 2004 as the business start date.

PureTalk describes itself on its blog as veteran led. We did not find a public list of its owners, so we leave it there.

What network does PureTalk use?

AT&T. PureTalk's plan pages only say "the nation's most dependable 5G network". The fine print under its coverage map is plainer: it says AT&T does not guarantee coverage and refers to existing AT&T coverage areas.

So a phone that gets good AT&T signal at home should get the same towers on PureTalk. Check the address on the coverage map before you buy.
