Buying Guide
Where to Buy a Jitterbug Phone
Jitterbug phones have been sold under the Lively name since 2020, and there are four places to buy one: Lively.com, Best Buy, Amazon, and Walmart. The device is the same everywhere — what changes is the price that day, whether you can hold it first, and how much of the setup is done for you.
The one thing to know before you buy anywhere: a Jitterbug only works with Lively service (about $19.99/mo and up). You cannot activate it on Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile — so factor the plan into the real cost no matter which store wins on device price.

Which Jitterbug should you buy?
There are only two: the Lively Flip2 (about $99.99) — a big-button flip phone for calls and texts — and the Lively Smart4 (about $149.99) — a simplified Android smartphone. If a touchscreen is a barrier, the Flip2 wins; if your parent wants photos, video calls, or apps, get the Smart4. Our full reviews cover both in depth.
Three catches to know before checkout
1. It only activates with Lively service
A cheap device price at any retailer still leads to the same Lively plan (from about $19.99/mo). Lively service runs over Verizon’s network, so coverage tracks Verizon coverage — but the plan and support come from Lively, and you cannot move the phone to another carrier later.
2. The safety button is a service, not just a button
Urgent Response — the 24/7 live-agent help service — is tied to your plan tier, not bundled free with the device. If the safety service is the reason you’re buying, confirm what your chosen plan includes before relying on it. Our Lively plans guide breaks this down.
3. “Free Jitterbug” offers aren’t free phones
As of mid-2026, Lively does not advertise participation in the federal Lifeline discount program. Offers that look free are typically device promotions that still require a paid plan. If a no-cost phone is the priority, a Lifeline-participating carrier is the honest route instead.
Common questions
Where can I buy a Jitterbug phone?
Jitterbug phones (sold under the Lively brand since 2020) are available from Lively.com directly, from Best Buy in stores and online, and through listings on Amazon and Walmart. Wherever you buy the device, it only works with Lively service, so the plan signup happens with Lively either way.
Does Walmart sell Jitterbug phones?
Walmart carries Lively (Jitterbug) phone listings online, though availability shifts and some listings come from third-party sellers. Check that the listing is sold by Walmart or an authorized seller, and remember the phone still requires Lively service to activate.
How much is a Jitterbug phone?
As of June 2026, the Lively Flip2 typically runs about $99.99 and the Lively Smart4 about $149.99 before any promotion, plus a required Lively service plan starting around $19.99 per month. Retailers run frequent discounts, so compare the device price at Lively.com, Best Buy, Amazon, and Walmart before buying.
Can I use a Jitterbug phone on Verizon?
No. You cannot put a Jitterbug phone on a Verizon (or AT&T, or T-Mobile) plan. Lively phones only work with Lively service. Lively service itself runs over Verizon's network, so coverage is similar to Verizon coverage, but the plan, billing, and support all come from Lively.
Can seniors get a Jitterbug phone for free?
Jitterbug phones are not free. As of mid-2026 Lively does not advertise participation in the federal Lifeline discount program, and "free Jitterbug" offers you may see are typically limited-time device promotions that still require a paid Lively plan. Seniors who need a no-cost phone should look at Lifeline-participating carriers instead.
What is a Jitterbug phone?
Jitterbug is the original brand name for the senior-focused phones now sold as Lively. The lineup is two devices: the Lively Flip2, a big-button flip phone, and the Lively Smart4, a simplified Android smartphone. Both pair with Lively service plans and the optional Urgent Response safety service.
